Our mission is to eliminate pet care as a barrier to human healing. By providing a "crisis-aware," state-of-the-art sanctuary, we offer long-term boarding for individuals entering rehabilitation, mental health treatment, or domestic violence shelters. We believe that when an owner knows their pet is safe, they can focus entirely on the hard work of transformation.
A Sustainable Model of Compassion (where Individuals in rehabilitation and mental health crisis support are)
We operate on a unique dual-revenue model that allows our community to help us save lives.
Tails to Serenity was born from a simple, heart-led realization: no one should ever have to choose between their own life-saving healthcare and the security of their best friend.
At Tails to Serenity, our work is guided by a set of foundational principles that reflect our commitment to both the humans we support and the animals we protect. These values are the heartbeat of our facility:
Drawing from our founder’s journey in recovery and decades of working with at-risk youth, we meet every client with radical empathy. We understand that crisis can happen to anyone, and we provide a safe, shame-free space for both pets and their owners.
We serve as a voice for the vulnerable. Whether we are advocating for at-risk youth or protecting the pets of domestic violence survivors, we act with unwavering honesty and ethical standards in everything we do.
We view ourselves as the temporary guardians of your most precious relationship. We take this responsibility seriously, ensuring that the bond between you and your pet remains unbroken and strengthened throughout your time apart.
From our Fear Free Shelter certification to our state-of-the-art medical management systems, we are committed to the highest standards of animal welfare. We provide a premium experience for every pet, whether they are here for a day of community daycare or a 90-day crisis stay.
We believe in a circular model of support. By offering high-end services to our Southern California neighbors, we create a sustainable engine of hope that fuels our mission-based work and strengthens the healthcare continuum for everyone.
My journey to founding Tails to Serenity began long before I stepped into the world of animal advocacy. For 25 years, I served as a Physical Education and Health Science teacher, working on the front lines with at-risk youth. In those classrooms and on those fields, I saw firsthand how trauma and crisis can derail a life—and how essential a stable support system is to the healing process.
As a person in recovery myself, I understand the weight of the barriers that stand between a person and their health. I know the courage it takes to say “yes” to treatment, and I know the devastating heartbreak of realizing that saying “yes” to yourself might mean saying “goodbye” to the animal who has been your only constant source of comfort.
I realized that we were asking people to make an impossible choice: their life or their pet.
I built Tails to Serenity to ensure that choice never has to be made again. By combining my background in health education, my passion for advocacy, and my ongoing training in animal behavior, I have created a sanctuary that honors the human-animal bond.
When you trust us with your pet, you aren’t just getting a boarding facility; you are getting a team that truly understands the road you are walking. We are here to hold the leash while you do the work to find your footing again.
With hope and serenity,
Gusti Lind Founder, Tails to Serenity
